UMN Dining

Meal plans at the U are mandatory for all students living within the residence halls. Meal plans range in price from $2420-$2620 per semester.

On September 20th, following a month of staff shortages and reduced dining hall hours, (additional tweet on hours), a follower submitted a report that lunchables were being served in the residence hall dining facility. Students have had growing complaints about the quality of their dining options, with many stating that all they typically eat is pizza because nothing else is edible.

The U later responded stating that the Lunchables weren't meant to be a meal replacement, but instead an addition to the options as the packaged food was reaching the end of its shelf life. Beyond simple nutritional concerns, many students were unhappy with the waste of single use plastics being circulated by the U in their dining halls.

One week after lunchables were served to students, the U issued a 50% refund on dining fees for students enrolled in their plans. They attributed this to the lack of hours of operation, growing staff shortages, and the long list of complaints received from students.
